Welcome to STATE INSTITUTE OF SPECIAL EDUCATION & RESEARCH
Established as Training Centre for the Teachers of the Visually handicapped (TCTVH) on 15th August, 1987as a collaborative Centre of the then National Institute for the Visually handicapped, Dehradun (At Present National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities- NIEPVD) Under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India and the then Community Development & Rural Reconstruction (CD&RR) Department, Govt. of Odisha, (Now under the Department of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities- SSEPD) the centre has been upgraded by the State Government as the STATE INSTITUTE OF SPECIAL EDUCATION & RESEARCH (SISER) since 2018. The oldest and a Unique Institute of its kind in the State, SISER is engaged in preparing Special and Inclusive teachers for the State at primary level at present.
Apart from Teacher Training the Institute also imparts Refresher Courses for the Teachers of the State as Continuing Rehabilitation Education (CRE). So far 619 trainees have passed out from the centre and almost more than 95% have been engaged as Special Teachers in Special Schools/Inclusive Schools/Special organisations working for PWDs in the State and outside. The Institute also acts as Resource Centre in the field of disabilities in the State.
